In light of the serious health risks posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 Annual Diocesan Conference, originally scheduled for March 28, 2020 at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), has been postponed.
This decision, adhering with the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations, has been made as a precautionary measure for the safety of the people of the Diocese of Laredo, as well as registrants and speakers who planned to travel from out of town to attend the event.

On March 13, 2020, Most Reverend James A. Tamayo, First Bishop of the Diocese of Laredo, along with his brother bishops, received the following Presidential Statement from His Excellency Most Reverend José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), regarding coronavirus (COVID-19).
Bishop James A. Tamayo joins with his fellow brother bishops of Texas in supporting the following statement. The Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops welcomes the preliminary injunction issued by a federal judge, making the refugee consent decision to deny Texans the ability to welcome refugees mute, at least until the court makes a final decision or unless the injunction is overturned by a higher court.
